THE RELEVANT CHURCH STORY

Relevant Church began in the living room of our Founding Pastor Matt McGarity. He and his
wife Elizabeth had been serving a ministry in the area where Matt was positioned to launch
and lead contemporary services. Shortly after this, God began to burden Matt’s heart to
reach the lost, and felt the call to plant a church. After sharing this with the leadership he
was submitted to, the church released him to begin what is now Relevant Church! Like most
church plants, it went from his living room to a school, where the church began to grow.

Over the years, Relevant has transitioned locations a few times, finally gathering in a
beautiful YMCA that was built by the Clover School District. Relevant Church has a
beautiful partnership with the YMCA, hosting local prayer breakfasts, ministering to afterschool kids, and supporting various community efforts. With over 15k memberships to this
YMCA location alone, Relevant has a great opportunity to meet people where they are. In
2015, Waters Edge, a local church plant in South Charlotte merged with Relevant. It was
during this time that our current Lead Pastor, Josh Hair, came to the church. His wife,
Summer, and three kids moved to the Charlotte area so that Josh could attend graduate
school at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. He began as our Generations Pastor,
overseeing kids through college, eventually stepping into a Discipleship Pastor role in 2020.

Our Founding Pastor had served in the USMC for ten years and it was during this season of his life that Matt McGarity heard God calling him to ministry. He never expected that years down the road Matt would feel led to rejoin the military reserves as part of the chaplain core. This began an incredible extension of RLVNT’s ministry in 2016 to our service men and women. Over the years, there were multiple deployments for short stints of time. During these deployments, Josh Hair took the lead in his absence. During one of the deployments to Paris Island, the Lord began to call Matt and his wife to full-time, activeduty chaplaincy. This brought about a leadership transition that took place in late July of 2023. Pastor Josh and his family had been under Matt’s leadership for over seven and a half years, making the transition very smooth and natural.

Relevant Church is poised for tremendous growth in the area. The church is well
established and has a great reputation in the community, but is limited in ministry
expansion based on its current facility. There are many pros and cons to leasing a multimillion dollar facility, but the church has always been content, yet always open for change.
Relevant is on the move looking for property in a fast-growing area! With a new vision from
Pastor Josh, the church is looking to purchase property and build a facility that is a blessing
not only for the church but primarily for the community. Equally important, is the heartbeat
of Relevant Church, to raise up, empower and send out leaders. The Founding Pastor
instilled a desire to plant churches/ministries within the DNA of Relevant. We would love to
see the Kingdom of God advance through any means possible.

JOB SUMMARY

The Worship Pastor will serve as a member of the Pastoral staff
reporting directly to the Lead Pastor. This position works closely with
the pastoral staff, production team, and other related departments
to plan and implement all worship services for the weekend and
special events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise, lead, and shepherd all worship staff and volunteers, including youth worship
• Participate in planning overall service structure for each weekend service, special events, and retreats
• Oversee the song selection for the weekend services
• Schedule worship leaders, vocalists, and musicians for the weekend services
• Run weekly rehearsals
• Oversee the development and recruitment of worship teams
• Develop and implement all strategic processes and systems
• Provide pastoral care for the department as well as the congregation
• Assist with the coordination of communion, baptisms, child dedications, etc
• Oversee the worship ministry budget
• Accomplish general pastoral duties
• Other duties as assigned

CLOVER, SC

Lake Wylie/Clover sits right along the state line of North and South Carolina. It has
all of the amenities of living near a major metropolitan area but without all of the
chaos. Charlotte is currently considered one of the best places to live in the country.
Along with its booming economy, being the home of the Carolina Panthers,
NASCAR, and the White Water Center, Charlotte continues to grow every year!

South Carolina is highly sought after for its conservative state government, lower
taxes, and phenomenal school districts. Clover and Fort Mill (surrounding cities) are
yearly rated as the top two school districts in the state! From music to sports, to
education, Clover Schools make the community a great place to raise a family.
Another great aspect is that Clover is located two hours from the Blue Ridge
mountains and three hours from the coast!
