THE BECOMING CHURCH STORY
The Becoming Church was birthed in the heart of a global crisis — the 2020 pandemic — and stands today as a testament to God’s faithfulness, authentic community, and the beauty of diversity. In a time marked by uncertainty, division, and fear, Pastors Michael and Katie felt a clear and courageous call from God. In June of that year, they set out on their “Abraham journey,” leaving behind what was familiar to relocate to Huntsville, Alabama, without full clarity on what lay ahead. Through prayer, fasting, and the wise counsel of mentors, their calling became unmistakable: to plant a vibrant, life-giving church that would bring hope and healing to the city.
The earliest seeds of The Becoming Church were planted around a simple kitchen table in December 2020. By March 2021, Michael and Katie were building relationships across Huntsville, forming what would become the church’s launch team. Those early days were marked by personal connection, faith-filled conversations, and word-of-mouth invitations that reflected the very heart of the church’s mission — uniting people to purpose.
On February 27, 2022, The Becoming Church officially launched with a passionate team of forty-five people who gathered in hotel ballrooms and community spaces to create a place where people could encounter God and find family. What began as a step of faith has grown into a thriving, multi-generational church impacting Huntsville, Madison, and beyond. In just over three years, The Becoming Church has seen record-breaking salvations, baptisms, and attendance — each number representing a story of transformation. People are discovering community through B Groups, stepping into leadership, and learning to live out their God-given purpose. The church has become a home where faith is strengthened, families are restored, and lives are forever changed by the power of the Gospel.
Today, The Becoming Church continues to grow in influence and impact, with an expanding staff, a flourishing Dream Team, and partnerships that stretch across the nation and around the world. From investing in church plants and global missions to serving schools and neighborhoods throughout Huntsville, the church’s reach is steadily multiplying. While growth brings challenges, the people of The Becoming Church see them as opportunities — moments to stretch faith, deepen dependence on God, and step boldly into the limitless future He has prepared. They believe the best is yet to come, that God is not finished, and that the story of The Becoming Church is still being written — one life, one family, one story at a time. JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Experience at The Becoming Church provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for every aspect of the church’s worship experience environments. This role is responsible for designing, executing, and continuously improving all weekend services, special events, worship gatherings, and guest-facing moments to ensure they reflect the vision, culture, and excellence of the church. The position oversees worship, production, creative, and service programming teams while leading volunteers, staff, and ministry systems that support a seamless and impactful church experience both in-person and online. This leader serves as the central coordinator of service execution, ensuring alignment across worship, production, creative, communications, and ministry moments. Responsibilities include leading service planning, developing leaders and volunteers, managing production systems and creative projects, overseeing budgets and operational workflows, and driving excellence in every environment. The ideal candidate is a high-capacity leader who combines spiritual maturity, creative vision, organizational strength, and team development to create engaging, distraction-free experiences that help people connect with Jesus and community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience Leadership: Lead and oversee all weekend worship experiences, special services, and guest-facing environments to ensure every experience reflects the vision, culture, and excellence of The Becoming Church. Responsibilities include service planning, execution, timing, transitions, and live problem-solving.
Worship Ministry Leadership: Provide leadership and development for worship leaders, musicians, and vocalists. Shape worship culture, coordinate song selections and worship moments, and ensure alignment with the church’s vision, theology, and values.
Production Oversight: Oversee all production environments, including audio, lighting, video, livestream, presentation software, and stage management. Ensure technical excellence, system readiness, equipment stewardship, and strong volunteer development.
Creative Direction: Lead creative strategy and execution for worship experiences, sermon series, campaigns, and events. Oversee graphics, video storytelling, stage aesthetics, and promotional content while maintaining brand consistency.
Service Programming & Experience Design: Design intentional worship experiences through service flow, transitions, timing, and response moments.
Volunteer Development: Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and develop volunteers across worship, production, and experience ministries.
Staff & Team Management: Provide coaching, accountability, communication, and leadership development for staff within experience ministries while fostering collaboration and excellence.
Operations & Project Management: Manage ministry workflows, timelines, calendars, communication, and execution systems to ensure effective organization and follow-through across departments.
Budget & Resource Stewardship: Manage budgets, approve purchases, oversee vendors, and steward ministry resources responsibly across worship, production, creative, and event environments.
Special Events Leadership: Lead the planning and execution of major events.
