THE CITYLINE CHURCH STORY
Cityline’s connection to Parkcrest originally began in the mid-1960s when a few
members and leaders from Parkcrest Church planted Lakewood Christian Church
at its present location. The Lakewood church was launched out of a desire to
connect people to Jesus throughout Lakewood and its surrounding cities. The
church continued as an independent congregation until 2003, when Parkcrest
Church came alongside the Lakewood church and added them as part of Parkcrest
Christian Church.
After several years and many attempts at fine-tuning the ministry experience and
campus model of what was then the Parkcrest Lakewood Campus, it was decided in
2010 that the campus would temporarily close for renovation and recalibration.
Following much prayer and significant discussion, Parkcrest felt led to re-open the
campus with the vision of planting it as an independent church.
On Easter Sunday 2011, the Lakewood campus re-opened, continuing a relationship
with Parkcrest Christian Church as part of their multi-site network. In February 2012,
Jack and Linda Sheets accepted the invitation to serve as the Lakewood Campus
Pastors. As the church continued to learn, develop, and reach into its community,
God began to grow it into a multicultural, multigenerational church—reaching
people from various walks of life through its three weekend services and ministries
that connect with people right where they are.
On February 1, 2016, the Lakewood campus was officially launched as an
independent church plant. The planting of this new church came not only with
recognition of its legacy but also with a new identity and rebranding as Cityline
Church. The focus of Cityline is to love God and love people as we serve the
communities of Lakewood, Bellflower, Cerritos, Artesia, and beyond—meeting
various needs and providing a safe place for anyone seeking to discover how to
establish and maintain a life-giving relationship with Jesus.
