JOURNEY CHURCH STORY

Pastors Jim and Jennifer Wilkes are the lead pastors at Journey Church. When the Journey team asked the lead pastors to give a history of the church, they were slightly
overwhelmed; how can they possibly boil down all the miracles into just a few minutes? Journey Church has changed not only the Lead Pastors lives, but the lives of many. It
has given Pastors Jim and Jen an intimate look on what it means to be a disciple of Christ, as well as the growth that has taken place as leaders. With that said, Pastors Jim
and Jen would like to give you a few brief snapshots of the Journey Church story with the hope that you will recognize similarities in your own story. Back in 2008, while in New Orleans, Louisiana Pastors Jim and Jen had a calling to move back to Cleveland, Ohio. They were both called to plant a church in Cleveland and they submitted to the calling. They packed up their two boys, and moved back to Cleveland. They began, with three other couples, to hold Thursday night Bible studies. Over the next nine months, it grew to 90 people. Through a series of miracles, they discovered a church building in Fairview Park. After holding services there for about a month, they were led to purchase the building, which led to a beautiful remodel. At their first service in March 2009, there were over 300 people in attendance. With the love and compassion for the community as well as the obedience to God, Big Serves was born. Journey wanted to be a church that gathered on the weekend and then walked outside of the four walls to serve in the community. Their desire was so people would catch the heartbeat of what Jesus taught, which was to serve others. Once Big Serve took off, the church grew on many levels, leading to an increase in attendance as well as a second service in June 2009. While all this growth was great and exciting, the heart of Journey was never to have a bunch of attendees but to establish local churches that made an impact on the community and in turn plant other churches to make an impact on their community. God has continued to do more than what they
have thought possible: giving a building in Twinsburg for free, basically having the keys handed for the North Royalton building, identifying the property in Avon, building their
campus from the ground up, along with the series of miracles that led to the metro campus opening into their on-line campus that reaches thousands of people all over the United States. At the end of the day, God is moving. He is working and He is active. God promises to build his church. God spoke to Pastor Jim so clearly while he was worried about trying to solve things for the church. God reminded him all he needed him to do was to be obedient and let God build the church. The story of Journey Church isn’t different from everyone else’s story in life. It’s a story of God calling His people to a movement. Journey Church fully believes in living an open- handed life, fully surrendered to God’s will. Once you surrender and move in the will of God, you will see Him working things out for your benefit.
