Cedar Valley Church, formerly known as Bloomington Assembly of God, held its first service on March 3, 1953, under the leadership of founding pastor Arvid Kingsriter. Located in Bloomington, Minnesota, a growing first-ring suburb of Minneapolis, the church began in a small, abandoned school building purchased from the city for $15,313.
As the congregation expanded under Pastor Kingsriter’s leadership, a new church building was constructed and opened on November 23, 1961. Continued growth led to the purchase of a nearby elementary school, and in August 1982, the church relocated to that site. There, a 1,800-seat worship auditorium was built and later renovated in 2013 to serve the needs of a modern, growing church community.
Pastor Kingsriter faithfully served until 1988 and was succeeded by Pastor Jerry Strandquist in 1989, who provided strong spiritual leadership until his retirement in June 2015. The current and third Lead Pastor, Neal Rich, began his ministry at Cedar Valley Church in January 2016 and continues to lead the church with vision and purpose.
Today, Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington serves a vibrant and diverse congregation. Bloomington is a dynamic suburban city with a population of nearly 100,000. The east side of the city, where the church is located, is a highly diverse metropolitan area less than a mile from the Mall of America and under three miles from the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. Committed to community outreach, discipleship, and spiritual development, Cedar Valley is also a key destination for those seeking church jobs in Minnesota and looking to make an impact through ministry.
