THE GRACEPOINT CHURCH STORY

In 1904, Antone Linn, a circuit-riding preacher, followed God’s call into Kitsap
County, founding what would become GracePoint Church. Originally named
the Swedish Christian Free Church, it began in homes and at the Clear Creek
Grange Hall, fueled by faith and a passion for reaching the community.
As the county grew, especially during WWII and the Navy’s expansion, so did
the church. Through the decades, it evolved in name and location, becoming
Silverdale Baptist Church in 1971. Under Pastor Curt DeGraaff’s 26-year
leadership, the church purchased land on Highway 303, where it opened a
new building in 1989. It quickly outgrew expectations, expanding facilities in
1994 to accommodate a thriving youth ministry and growing congregation.
After a leadership transition, Barry Bandara returned in 2005 as the lead
pastor. Under his guidance, the church revitalized its vision, updated its
governance, and continued growing. By 2013, the name was changed to
GracePoint Church, removing a barrier that kept visitors away and better
reflecting its mission.
A major building expansion launched soon after, leading to the 2015 opening
of a new auditorium and lobby. Even through COVID-19 in 2020, GracePoint
remained strong, pivoting online and becoming the first large church in Kitsap
to reopen safely.
In 2022, the church stepped out in faith with the Horizon Initiative, a bold
vision to reach and disciple 2,000 people in five years. By 2024, GracePoint
had raised $1.9 million in cash to fully renovate its Kids and Youth spaces,
which opened in January. With an average of 1,324 attending weekly in person
and around 1,845 more online, GracePoint continues to thrive, carrying on a
legacy of faith, growth, and community impact.
