THE SMYSER CHRISTIAN CHURCH STORY

Smyser Christian Church was originally founded as House Church in 1837.
In 1875, a one-room building was erected. The current building they occupy was built in 1976.
There have been many pastors since 1837, a long lineage of leaders that is too expansive to list.
The current Lead Pastor is Pastor Jason Kinder.
Smyser Christian is a rural body of Christ located in Moultrie County, Illinois. This puts them
in a unique position. They are close in proximity to several towns, within ten miles, giving
them the ability to share the good news of Jesus and to draw in many different
communities. Growing is important, but more than anything they want to make it easy for
people to find Jesus.

JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Pastor will equip students to be fully devoted followers of
Jesus and will prepare this generation to be leaders in the Church.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the students at SCC
• Establish relationships with the students and their parents
• Strategize and plan serving opportunities for the students of SCC
• Create and use relevant curriculum to draw students closer to Jesus
• Create and maintain a budget
• Preach on occasion when necessary

CANDIDATE COMPETENCIES

• Must be a baptized believer of Jesus Christ
• Worships regularly
• Tithes regularly
• Lives life according to the Fruits of the Spirit
• Preferably has a college degree (not a deal breaker though)
• Has successful Student Pastor experience or other leadership experience (preferred)

Moultrie County is nestled in the heart of Central Illinois. It is
conveniently located just hours from Chicago, St Louis, and
Indianapolis. There is quick access to Eastern Illinois University in
Charleston, the University of Illinois in Champaign, and Illinois State
University in Bloomington. It’s the perfect balance of small-town
living with nearby cities that are full of entertainment.
Moultrie County is on the shores of beautiful Lake Shelbyville,
offering, fishing, boating, and wonderful lake life.
