THE CENTRAL WESLEYAN CHURCH STORY
Central Wesleyan Church began in 1896 in Holland, Michigan, meeting above
a saloon. In 1912, the growing church community purchased their first church
building on the corner of 17th and Pine. Through the 1950s and 1960s, Central
began to grow both “home and away” as they planted a church in nearby
Spring Lake, MI, and sent missionaries to Haiti.
In 1975, the church approved the purchase of the current property located on
40th Street. By 1982, the missions giving had increased by 111%. Through the
1980s-2000s, the property was developed and expanded to include a
Discipleship Center, Chapel, and Worship Center seating 2,800 people as
Central grew.
In 2014, Pastor Craig Rees accepted the call to become the next lead pastor
of Central Wesleyan Church. In 2015, the vision for Water’s Edge was first
shared to see Central become a church of at least six campuses by 2020.
Today, seven years after the launch of the first campus, Water’s Edge is a
multi-site movement in 18 churches across the country and around the world
that has seen over 4,500 salvations and 1,900 baptisms.
Water’s Edge is a family of kingdom-minded, mission-motivated, generous
churches working together to amplify the hope and life of Jesus to all people.
They partner with local leaders leading strategic churches in significant
places by accelerating church building, mobilizing generosity, and providing
systems and support.
CENTRAL WESLEYAN CHURCH VISION & MISSION
At Central, we exist to Amplify the Hope and Life of Jesus to everyone. We do
this by being:
WITH GOD – We are committed to developing personal and corporate habits for
a dynamic relationship with God. We emphasize prayer and the study of the
Scriptures as critical habits that help us discern the plans and purposes of God
for our lives.
IN COMMUNITY – We desire to cultivate relationships where care, challenge,
and celebration occur. We emphasize living life as one faith family all together –
through worship services and small community groups.
ON MISSION – We pursue opportunities to holistically care for the needs of our
world. As a local church, we are called to participate in the mission of God
actively. We have been blessed with an incredible facility that welcomes many
each week, however, we deeply believe God measures His church not by how
many we sit but rather by how many we send.
At Water’s Edge, we are a family of Kingdom-minded, mission-motivated
churches working together to amplify the hope and life of Jesus to all.
